Ultimate Reloader - MDT GRND-POD Bipod Review - MDT Mention
Gavin Gear from Ultimate Reloader recently posted a YouTube video reviewing and testing the MDT GRND-POD bipod. In the video, Gavin explains the features of the GRND-POD, how he uses the bipod, and how it performs in the field. Starting the video, the host introduces the GRND-POD by explaining the different types of bipods the crew at Ultimate Reloader use on their precision rifle setups. The MDT GRND-POD is described as a more budget-friendly option when compared to the MDT CKYE-POD.
MDT GRND-POD BIPOD
The MDT GRND-POD features a compact form factor, a 4.5" – 9.0" height range, and single-handed adjustment points. Forty degrees of sideways can't come with adjustable tension, ARCA, Picatinny, and A.R.M.S 15 mounting options (all the same price), rapid deploy legs, 90-degree (down) and 50-degree (forward) leg angles, and legs that angle forwards and backward. Gavin explains how he uses these features and demonstrates the single-hand adjustable legs on his ARCA-mounted GRND-POD. Position options are also showcased, emphasizing the 50-degree forward position that is best used when a shooter needs to lower the height of the rifle without wanting to adjust the leg length or when the shooter is using their rifle mounted on a tripod system and needs clearance. The backward leg positioning is also useful when necessary for storage or when the shooter does not want the legs protruding out from the chassis system of their rifle and under their barrel. The tension lever can be utilized in combination with a bubble level to lock the rifle in a level orientation in uneven shooting positions. The GRND-POD features carbon legs with rubber feet tips, polymer buttons, and a 6061 Aluminum Core.
The second half of the video shows Gavin in the field testing the MDT GRND-POD. For testing, Gavin used an MDT ACC-equipped rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor and made impressive shots from semi-awkward prone positions commonly used during a mountain hunt.
Rounding out the YouTube video, Gavin noted the GRND-POD "as a great choice when you want something flexible, something that is budget-friendly given the construction features that it has, and also where you have a limited elevation range that you need to work with in terms of your positioning and what you've got for support on the ground." The host then shows off one of his coyote hunting rigs with a GRND-POD and mentions how compact the bipod is.
The MDT GRND-POD is at home on bolt action rifles and modern sporting rifles.
