Impact Shooting: Total Rifle Control - MDT Baker Wings

Impact Shooting: Total Rifle Control - MDT Baker Wings

If you spend any time around precision rifle shooters, you’ll quickly see that even small gear adjustments can significantly impact performance on the clock and on target. That’s exactly where the MDT Baker Wings come into play. In a recent video, Pieter Milan of Impact Shooting examines this accessory and explains why it has become a staple on his rifles.

THE BAKER WINGS

Designed by MDT team shooter Keith Baker, the Baker Wings are a straightforward yet effective upgrade that addresses several common issues precision shooters encounter when using rifles off bags or barricades.

For starters, they’re machined from aluminum with the quality of fit and finish you’d expect from MDT. They are designed and built for hard use while maintaining aesthetic looks. The wings attach directly to any chassis or forend with M-LOK slots, making installation easy and compatible with a wide range of modern precision rifle setups and AR-style rifles.

One of the key benefits Pieter points out is how the Baker Wings help prevent shooters from accidentally applying downward pressure on the barrel. It’s surprisingly easy to do when loading into a bag or barricade, and even slight pressure on the barrel can negatively affect barrel harmonics and cause a point of impact shift. By extending the forend sides, the wings create a platform for the shooter to steady the rifle.

Another major advantage is stability. The Baker Wings extend the width of the rifle’s forend, effectively creating a broader platform for riding bags. Anyone who shoots positional stages knows how valuable that extra contact area can be. A wider footprint helps the rifle track more consistently during recoil and provides a steadier interface when moving between props.

Another detail many might overlook is what MDT did to the wing’s underside. The bottom surfaces of the wings have grip tape, providing just the right amount of traction against shooting bags without adding excessive drag. The result is a surface that stays steady when needed but still allows smooth adjustments during a stage.

MDT Baker Wings still allow the full length of the ARCA Rail.

Perhaps one of the most appreciated design choices is that the Baker Wings don’t occupy any ARCA rail space. Your ARCA rail remains fully usable, meaning you can still slide a tripod mount, bipod, or other accessories freely along the length of the forend. For shooters who rely heavily on ARCA-based gear, that’s a huge plus.

FINAL THOUGHTS

As Pieter points out, the Baker Wings are a small upgrade with a large impact. They improve stability, help guide the shooter, and integrate seamlessly into existing setups. It’s another example of MDT pushing the boundaries with practical, competition-driven innovations that help elevate the sport of precision rifle shooting.
