Long Range Lauryl: Are MDT Baker Wings Worth It?

Long Range Lauryl: Are MDT Baker Wings Worth It?

In precision rifle competitions, stability and recoil management are essential, especially when a shooter wants to stay behind the scope to spot impacts, misses, or trace. That’s where the MDT Baker Wings come into play. In a recent video, competitive shooter and content creator Lauryl explains how this small but effective accessory helped improve her ability to control recoil and track shots.

THE BAKER WINGS

The Baker Wings were created by MDT Team Shooter Keith Baker, one of the sport’s top competitors and a genuine good guy. The Baker Wings are machined from aluminum and designed to attach to M-LOK slots on compatible chassis systems or AR platforms. The wings extend outward from the rifle’s forend to increase its overall width. This broader footprint helps the rifle sit more securely when riding shooting bags or barricades.

For Lauryl, that added stability made a noticeable difference. As a smaller-framed shooter, she initially struggled to spot misses because recoil would move the rifle (and her) off target. After trying different side rails and accessories, the Baker Wings gave the most consistent results.

CONTROLLED SHOOTING

Her technique leverages the wings' design. She uses her wrist to ride atop the wing, wrapping her fingers around the front of the bag to lock her forearm in place. When she fires, the recoil spreads through her arm, body, and the bag, creating a more controlled, linear recoil impulse rather than a sharp jump that pulls the rifle off target.

The underside of the Baker Wings and the grip tape let a shooting bag "hug” the rifle. The wings and the forend’s underside form a U-shape, rather than a completely flat bottom. This increased contact area enhances stability, especially on unstable props where small movements can affect accuracy.

FINAL THOUGHTS

After a full season competing in the Precision Rifle Series, Lauryl says the Baker Wings have become a dependable part of her setup—helping her stay more stable, control recoil, and keep her eyes on the target. For more guides and tutorials like this, check out Long Range Lauryl on YouTube.
